The McCammon Group is pleased to congratulate one of our own, the Honorable Marcus Z. Shar (Ret.), for being selected as a recipient of the Judicial College of Maryland’s 2023 Charles E. Moylan, Jr. Award. Recipients of the Moylan Award exhibit enthusiasm, expertise, and dedication in advancing judicial education for the judges and magistrates of Maryland. This distinction has been granted on only two prior instances, and Judge Shar is one of just two Maryland judges to be honored with the 2023 award. Notably, the Honorable Martin P. Welch (Ret.), who also serves as a McCammon Neutral, is a past recipient of this award. The award will be presented to Judge Shar at the Faculty & Mentor Recognition Banquet scheduled for November 2nd.
The Honorable Marcus Shar joined The McCammon Group in 2022 after thirteen years of dedicated service as an Associate Judge on the 8th Judicial Circuit Court for Baltimore City. Prior to his tenure on the bench, Judge Shar enjoyed a successful career in private practice focusing on civil litigation. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. The author of numerous articles on trial techniques and three editions of a treatise on medical-legal issues, Judge Shar has been an invited speaker for lawyer, judicial, medical, and lay groups around the country. He has served on the Executive Committee of the Maryland Circuit Judges Association and on the Maryland State Judicial Ethics Committee where he drafted a number of the State’s formal ethics opinions. A dedicated educator, Judge Shar served as a distinguished Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland School of Law and University of Baltimore School of Law, and he was formerly an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Judge Shar now brings this exemplary record of excellence and experience to The McCammon Group to serve the mediation and arbitration needs of lawyers and litigants in Maryland and beyond.
