The Honorable Rufus G. King, III, retired Chief Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, has joined The McCammon Group, a leading provider of mediation, arbitration and related dispute resolution services in the mid-Atlantic.
Preceding his distinguished judicial service, he worked in private practice for several firms before forming a partnership with his father, which later merged with Berliner and Maloney. In 1984, Judge King was appointed as an associate judge to the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, serving thereafter in the Criminal, Civil and Family Court Divisions. He was a Deputy Presiding Judge of the Division from 1994 to 1996 and subsequently was chosen to serve as a Chair of the Civil Divison from 1997 to 1998. In 2000, he was designated as Chief Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia until his retirement in September 2008.
While serving the court, Judge King chaired the Superior Court Child Support Guidelines Committee (1988-1989), the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council (1994-1995), and the Committee on Technology and Automation (1986-2000).
Judge King currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Center for State Courts, and he is Chairman of the National Conference of Metropolitan Courts. He is a member of the Bar Assocation of the District of Columbia, the Washington Bar Association, and the American Law Institute.
Judge King is a graduate of Princeton Univeristy and Georgetown University Law Center.
He now joins The McCammon Group to serve the mediation, arbitration, and special master needs of lawyers and litigants in Washington, DC, the mid-Atlantic, and throughout the nation. Also, he will serve The McCammon Group as its Director of Professional Development – DC.
